MMI wire on 2011-2012 Audi

I have recently fitted Audi 3G video interfaces to 2011 Q7 and 2012 A6 and am not getting any response from the NAV button when I connect the MMi wire. I am using the MMi wire that is suggested in the instructions. This wire has been yellow/white in the Q7 and green in the A6 but is in the correct plug position as per the picture in the manual (up one position and across one position from the main 12V power wire behind the main cd player/control unit).
Has the MMi protocol changed on the very late model Audis? Can I get to a different wire at the MMi control panel that will work?
