Dear car-solutions,

I would like to use this product with my ARM processor CAR GPS unit. does
it have CE 5.0 drivers on the stick or do you have something in your player
firmware that allows it to use this stick? just trying to make sure it will
work before i make an offer.

In attachment archive you would find driver and register keys for this modem. Also there would be additional programs for register edition and Total Commander. But this procedure is not so easy like at ordinary PC. You need to know exactly what Win CE5.0 you have, especially register type: HIVE Based or RAM Based.

- HIVE Based - register type in what settings are saved after restart or turn off device, easiest way.
- RAM Based - register type in what settings are not saved after restart or turn off device - in this type you need to write special script that would load in register needed keys and modem settings for you local provider.

About driver installation. In ref file, that are in attachment archive, way to driver is setted: \\Windows\ but if you would copy driver there, it would disappear after restart. If you do not want such situation you need to paste driver in internal memory, for example ResidentFlash (may be other name) and write in reg file direct way to driver:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\USB\LoadClients\Default\Default\Default\RS232_USB]

There are different ways for installation this driver in win CE5.0. There may be situation in which you need other flash in which driver would be inside it already.

I copied the 232usb.dll to \residentflash\ directory and copied the modem.reg file to a folder that reads all the reg files that need to be loaded after power up. When the reg file is run it shows a dialogue box saying ‘syntax error’

I have copied the file to the root of resident flash but still no joy.

I think i have sorted the problem below. Can you tell me which com port this uses by default? And how to add a com port for your stick.

Ok. I have the driver installed and a free com port assigned in the reg file.

I think i have done everything i can to make sure this will work. Before i order a stick, my friend has a zte mf100 stick that i can test with, is there any point borrowing it to see if it works? Or do i have to buy your stick to to make it work. I am afraid of paying for your one and then it not working and loosing money!!

You can’t check it with a different modem. You can’t even connect a different modem. Our modems are specially modified to be compatible with Windows CE. They have special firmware for that.

We can offer you 2 other options:
1st variant: You will send us your device, and we will do everything ourselves. But it is not cost-effective.
2nd variant has several steps and conditions:
1. You must have original firmware for your device, provided by the manufacturer of the device.
2. You send this firmware to us.
3. We send you a special program. You use the program to get the necessary information and send this information to us.
4. We make new firmware and send it to you. The device will be 100% operational.
5. The result: you get a firmware that is working quicker than the original and leaves more free RAM.
6. This is a paid procedure.

now this unit is actually two parts, the player side and the GPS card side.

I have hacked WinCE onto the GPS side, allowing me to run software on it. Its ARM processor ‘nowada’ based. So it has a residentflash partition as well as access to the SD card. I have also hacked a usb port onto the gps card.

So the idea is to get 3g running on it. The only question now is whether this is as simple as adding drivers for 3g modem, adding a port, installing internet explorer and...done or if it needs a change of the firmware as your suggesting below..
